This photo project is dedicated to a profound engagement with surfaces as interfaces between the inner and outer, the visible and invisible. The works gain special significance through the artist's personal situation: diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor, these are her last works. The progressing illness increasingly influences her perception and creates additional layers of reflection that subtly flow into the engagement with the surfaces. The choice of analog photography technology is of particular importance for this project. The irreversibility and material presence of the analog recordings contrast with the transience of life and give the works a palpable finality. Each image becomes an irrecoverable artifact that preserves the immediacy of the moment and makes the depth of the engagement with the surfaces vividly visible. Photo: Pia Mayrwöger
